Micky Fisser's journey as a drummer started at an incredibly young age. While most kids were busy with school, Micky was mastering rhythms and developing a unique drumming style that would later set him apart in the professional music world. In an interview, Micky shared how his passion for drumming led him to forge his own path without the traditional route of formal music education.

"I studied mostly on my own, at home," Micky explains. "I wanted to go to a conservatory, but I wasn’t accepted due to the theory part (which made sense as I was quite young, and had only completed a basic secondary education). It didn’t really bother me at the time because I knew that type of school wasn’t for me. I had just barely graduated from high school when we got an opportunity to tour with LA The Voices. We, the M&M Band, became their official backing band," Micky recalls.

At just 17 years old, Micky, along with percussionist Marvin Smith, formed the M&M Band. They quickly established themselves as a professional backing band, supporting renowned acts such as LA The Voices. "We immediately went into a new gig with the Dinner Show Brooklyn Nights in Aalsmeer. I was only 17, didn’t even have a driver’s license, so I always had to hitch a ride with Marvin," Micky laughs. "We were playing three to four times a week. Looking back, school would have never worked for me."

Continuing his education outside the traditional academic world, Micky sought out private lessons and experiences to hone his craft. "I took some lessons from Joost Kroon and Dave van Beek, and even spent two weeks in LA learning from some incredible drummers: Oscar Seaton, who plays for Lionel Ritchie, and Mark Schulman, Pink's drummer, to name a few. I even had a brief chance to connect with Nick Jonas' drummer. I was supposed to have a lesson with Brian Frasier-Moore, but unfortunately, he didn’t have time."

Micky also mentions his time learning from the great Eric Moore, a highly respected drummer who has inspired countless musicians. In the Netherlands, Micky spent two hours in a clinic with Moore, which he found valuable.

However, Micky prefers real live shows over clinics. "I usually find clinics less interesting. I'd rather watch someone like Aaron Spears perform live than sit through a clinic where the drummer answers a bunch of standard questions. You can just find that kind of stuff on YouTube or Drumeo these days," Micky explains. "Nowadays, it's so easy to reach out directly to musicians you admire. Everything is accessible through Instagram. Sometimes they respond, sometimes they don’t, but if you have the skill and show that you're serious, it helps."

Micky's journey is a testament to how passion, dedication, and self-determination can lead to success. He turned opportunities into stepping stones, carving out his place in the Dutch music scene as not just a drummer, but as a creator, mentor, and bandleader. His work with the M&M Band and his numerous collaborations have solidified his reputation as a top-tier drummer who’s always looking to push the boundaries of his craft.
